Hillclimb
  Subject: Great Day.

Im a clydesdale ( 190lbs+) and had entered the race against my better judgement, but in support of my fellow NEBC rider Jeremy Symonds. ( I hate doing hills, I'm a crit /track guy, he however lives for the things). Congrats by the way to Jeremy for qualifying for next years fast group.

Let me tell you however that this hill is really quite do-able for us larger riders, albeit you need the correct gearing ( 26 front, 27 back as a minimum). Its steep but its a grinder and the last 20+% section is no big deal.

The organisation is superp, the competition friendly and the hill awesome.

I have many people to thank as I had to stop 4 separate times, not to catch my breath as I never went anerobic, but to grab a allen key from another cyclist as my left crank kept falling off. (Note to the wise, test your bike first before setting off).

To the four cyclists who pulled over to lend a hand, my humblest thanks, as without your generosity my race would have finished 1/2 a mile into the climb.

It was an awesome day, the weather was friendly, the unpaved roads no more difficult than the paved, and as I never got out of the saddle, wheel slippage was not a concern.

To my fellow climbers, it was awe inspiring to see the long line of folks
working diligently up the slope in unison. Very few people were walking.

My time about 1:40 I think, not impressive perhaps, but next year with a bike that stays together and a knowledge of the mountain gleaned from this year....who knows. ( Tyler can sleep at night as he is in no danger from me!)

See you next year.
