Subject: flat handlebars on a race bike

I'm wondering if switching drop bars and pods and replacing with a flat carbon MTB handlebar with just the left hand rapidfire XTR brake/shifter makes sense. No front derailleur anyway and no need for front brake.

I'm not sure if the change to a more upright position will help or hurt hill climbing.

any thoughts?

thanks
